WIN YOUR TICKETS TO ABSOLUTELY APES DISCOVERY DAYS AT SAN DIEGO ZOO!

FEBRUARY 17-20, 2012!
- Let’s go Absolutely Apes! Visit the San Diego Zoo from February 17th to the 20th for a special Discovery Days event featuring apes. Join orangutans, gorillas, and bonobos for a celebration the whole family will enjoy! Come celebrate with Janey, our clever red-haired orangutan, who will turn 50 years old that weekend. Learn more at www.sandiegozoo.org.
- Ape species at the Zoo include: lowland gorilla, orangutan, bonobo (pygmy chimpanzee) and siamang. All ape species are endangered and protected under international law.
- As part of the event guests will have the opportunity to chat with animal care staff, create their own DNA bracelet, see special shows and presentations throughout the Zoo and watch the primates cavort as they get special treats. Other apes will receive popsicles, fruit treats and raisins to help celebrate the special event.
- Available only during the event is a special tour that includes behind-the-scenes areas of the primate houses. The tour includes keeper chats, animal enrichment activities, and behind-the-scenes visits. Reservations and additional fees are required.
- A scavenger hunt will be available in Lost Forest. Young guests can turn in their answers at the education booth to receive cool prizes.
- Guests are also invited to help conserve apes by bringing their old cell phones to the Zoo and leaving them for recycling. Mining the materials needed in telecommunications items like cell phones destroys the habitat of species like gorillas and chimpanzees. Recycling old cell phones reduces the need to mine new ore.
